FOCUS ON: Windsong Dojo (USA)
The Windsong Dojo was established in 1982 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for the practice of Aikido, Judo, Jyodo and related arts.
The dojo is owned and operated by Nick Lowry (8th dan Aikido, 8th dan Judo, 7th dan Jyodo) who is assisted by over a dozen other high ranking (above 6th dan) instructors and we feel offers one of the most technically advanced martial arts curriculum in existence.
A feature of our dojo is a unique meditation facility called Windsong Innerspace that offers Zen, Vipassana, and traditional Tibetan forms of practice; as well as Dance meditation, Biodanza, and body awareness work.
Our dojo also boasts a bodywork room for healing arts practitioners of Masso- meridian therapy, massage, TCM Acupuncture, and Cranial Sacral Therapy. The dojo is a temple for budo, healing, and spiritual development.
Congratulations to some of our newest Judo yudansha (dan grade) promotions:
Kyle Sloan: 5th dan
Brent Siemens: 3rd dan
Prentis Glover: 3rd dan
Cameron Siemens: 2nd dan
We have recently added sections for Iaido and Traditional Tai Chi.
Iaido
Iaido is the art of drawing the Japanese sword. The practice of Iaido is based in solo forms. The core of the art is in the practitioner’s attention to minute details of movement. Students of this style of Iaido do not practice cutting (Tameshigiri), and partner drills are limited to senior students.
Our instructor, Susan Burke Sensei has been training in martial arts since 1981 and has trained in a number of styles including Iaido (5th dan), Kajukenbo (1st dan), Tae Kwon Do (2nd dan), Aikido, Kali, and others. She lived and trained in Illinois, Seattle, and Texas, and has gone on international training trips to Japan and Russia.
Traditional Tai Chi
Traditional T'ai Chi training is intended to teach awareness of one's own balance and what affects it, awareness of the same in others, an appreciation of the practical value in one's ability to moderate extremes of behavior and attitude at both mental and physical levels, and how this applies to effective self-defense principles.
